April Is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

I see so many people on the roads busy on their cell phones, adults and teens alike and it's scary to think how one second of distraction on a cell phone can lead to a major accident. It could be my family member or yours that gets hit by a distracted driver. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month and we all should make it a point to concentrate only on driving when we are behind the wheel. Please put down the hamburger, the cell phone, the hairspray, or anything else that could cause a distraction while we are on the road.

Facts About Texting While Driving:
Did you know?  On average, texting causes drivers to look away from the road for 4.6 seconds.  This means a person driving at a speed of 55 mph, will travel the length of an entire football field – including both end zones – with their eyes off of the road!

Texting while driving increases your chances of a crash by 23 times and has been attributable to at least 100,000 crashes each year.

Facts About Talking On Your Cell Phone While Driving:
Did you know?  At any given moment during daylight hours, over 800,000 vehicles are being driven by someone using a hand-held cell phone.

At any given time, 9% of drivers are talking on cell phones, making them 4 times more likely to crash.  Talking on the phone requires your brain to multitask.  Studies show hands-free devices provide no safety benefit.

Please be carful, the roads are scary enough without being distracted.
