Hostage Situation At Denver Radio Shack On East Colfax, Four Schools On Lockdown

We have been getting information on a hostage situation at a Denver Radio Shack on East Colfax Avenue and Glencoe Street. According to reports, Denver Police responded to an armed robbery situation at around 10:40 a.m.. Friday morning and the situation is still in progress. Swat Officers and other officials are on scene and four Denver schools in the area are on lockdown, including Palmer, Teller, Park Hill and Montclair School of Academics and Enrichment elementary. Businesses in the area have been evacuated.

Fifteen to 20 cops, including SWAT-team officers, are in front of the Radio Shack. Others searched the alley behind the store with their guns drawn.

Along Glencoe Street north of Colfax, cops have lined the street with their cars and are pointing their guns toward the store from behind open car doors.

According to information we are seeing on Twitter, the suspect involved is believed to be 19-years-old and police are not confirming if there are any injuries at this time.

Update, 4:01 p.m. 9/7/12
We have received information from DPD that the hostage and the (two) suspects have emerged from the Radio Shack store safely and the situation has ended peacefully. Good work, Denver Police!
