It's that time of year when we have to start watering our lawn, but make sure you are aware of the restrictions. Even though we have had some snow recently, Colorado is in a drought. That means water restrictions for Denver Water customers starting Monday, April 1, 2013. (No Foolin')

Denver Zoo Welcomes Blossom, A Baby Gerenuk [VIDEO]
Ahhh, the Denver Zoo has a new baby! I'm not exactly sure how to say gerenuk, but this new baby looks like a fawn a little bit.

Denver Zoo

Denver Zoo is thrilled to announce the birth of Blossom, the first gerenuk (Gair-uh-nook) ever to be born at the zoo. The female calf was born March 6 to mother, Layla, and father, Woody, and is the third generation female currently living in the gerenuk exhibit. The small antelope species is known to be shy and are expert hiders, but guests may be able to catch a glimpse of Blossom in her yard now, weather depending.

[ Denver Zoo ]

Blossom has just begun venturing out into her yard and thoroughly enjoys it as she runs and jumps to the delight of her first visitors. Between bursts of speed, though, she likes to catch her breath in a cubby hole between some rocks. Blossom is also Layla's first calf and she is proving to be a very attentive mother, frequently making sure to clean and check on Blossom.

Welcome to the world, Blossom!

Water Replaces Soda As American's Favorite Drink, Again
Are you drinking more water? You're not alone! Soda is no longer the top drink in America. Plain old H20 has made a comeback as our favorite drink, again.

Flickr Creative Commons

For more than two decades, soda was the No. 1 drink in the U.S. with consumption peaking in 1998 at 54 gallons a year, according industry tracker Beverage Digest. Americans drank just 42 gallons a year of water at the time.

Americans now drink an average of 44 gallons of soda a year, a 17 percent drop from the peak in 1998. Over the same time, the average amount of water people drink has increased 38 percent to about 58 gallons a year. Bottled water has led that growth, with consumption nearly doubling to 21 gallons a year.

It seems like a lot us are trying to make healthier choices when it comes to food and excercise, so this makes sense.

The parade starts at Coors Field parking lot, steps off at 27th and Blake, Blake west to 17th, 17th to Wynkoop, Wynkoop back to Coors Field.

Parking and Public Transportation

Street parking is prohibited on the parade route, but plenty of parking lots are available on near-by streets. Light rail and RTD busses run to the Union Station and parade route areas. Visit the RTD site for route information. Remember that the trains fill up on parade morning so allow yourself plenty of time.

About the Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade

Many argue that the parade has become the single largest gathering of Colorado residents every year in one place, where everyone sets aside their own heritage to become Irish for a day.   Many people are under the misconception that the parade is organized and presented by the City of Denver every year.  The parade is actually organized and driven by a group of volunteers formed 50 years ago and officially incorporated as the Denver St Patrick’s Day Parade Committee, Inc. in 1986.

Recipe: Kevin Mussman Attempts Un-sloppy (Sloppy) Joes
Do you have a quick go-to dinner plan that you fall back on or use regularly? We all are busy these days so I wanted to try a quick recipe and I'm trying to prepare more meals at home lately. I had seen the Un-sloppy Joes recipe online and on television and heard people talking about so I made up my own version and tried it last night.

Kevin Mussman, KOSI 101.1

Ingredients I used:

1 pound ground beef
1 can of sloppy joe sauce (I used an all-natural version)
1 can of refrigerated biscuits
1 package of shredded cheddar cheese

Simply brown the ground beef, add the sloppy joe mix and then I smashed the biscuits out flat, added some shredded cheddar then the meat mix and folded over and cooked the biscuits according to instructions on the package. YUM!

I thought they might be messy because I filled them pretty full, but they stayed together nicely.

What are your quick at-home dinners?

Denver International Airport Sets New Record, Marks 18th Anniversary
Denver International Airport celebrated a couple milestones recently. February 28, 2013 marked 18 years for DIA and in January, DIA set a new passenger record for the month.

Flickr Creative Commons

A total of 4,024,783 passengers passed through DIA in January, representing a 3.1 percent increase over January 2012. It is also the first January that passenger traffic has topped four million travelers.

"The continued increase in travelers using Denver International Airport is a great way to start off 2013," said Aviation Manager Kim Day. "The record number of passengers shows the positive turn in the economy and that DIA continues to be the airport of choice for millions of travelers and our airline partners."

Colorado Among The Top Five Happiest States
We live in Colorado for a reason, right? Lot's of sunshine, outdoor activities in the winter and the summer, one of the best concert venues, and that makes us happy. A recent Gallup-Healthways poll proved that Coloradoan's are pretty happy, the second-happiest state in fact.

Hawaii ranks No. 1 in well-being among its residents for the fourth year in a row, according to a Gallup-Healthways poll, while West Virginia for the fourth year straight is at the very bottom.

According to the poll, Aloha State residents were most likely to rate their lives as "thriving," scoring themselves high in areas such as emotional health and work environment.

So what makes a state happy?

Gallup reported that residents in happy states tend to be healthier -- they exercised more, had lower rates of diabetes and smoked less. They also tend to have higher incomes, lower unemployment and smaller rates of poverty.
