The Greeley Police Department and the family of the young man that passed away, want to share the photo of the text that took a precious life so it doesn't happen to anyone else and to remind all of us, to never text and drive.

The Heit family and Greeley Police Department wish to share the findings of a car accident investigation on April 3, 2013 in hopes that other families may avoid the tragedy and loss of a beloved family member. At 5:16 p.m., Greeley Police Officers and rescue personnel were dispatched to a single vehicle, rollover traffic accident on the outskirts of Greeley. The driver, Alexander Heit, 22, of Boulder was transported by ambulance to North Colorado Medical Center where he died a short time later.

Heit was in Greeley studying Audiology at the University of Northern Colorado. He was a good student and well liked in his classes. Colorado-raised with an affinity for being in the mountains, he loved being with his family, snowboarding in the winter and hiking in the summer.

“I can’t bear the thought of anyone else having to go through something like this,” said Sharon Heit, Alexander Heit’s mom. “Please, vow to never, NEVER text and drive. In a split second you could ruin your future, injure or kill others, and tear a hole in the heart of everyone who loves you. And in honor of Alex’s memory, please do something kind for a stranger who needs help, as Alex always wished for a world were people were kinder to each other.”

May the Heit family find peace during this difficult time.

Drovers refuse to learn
Another life lost. Hearts broken. No words but grief and disbelief.... Is that worth texting and driving,? Just what is it that drivers, young and old , do not understand, care to understand, want to understand or refuse to understand.? It's simple and this pedestrian who almost gets hit several times a day will tell you " 1- You are not all that important nor is the message you are receiving or sending. 2- You are so arrogant to not pull over and conduct your business safely 3)_You are confrontive with pedestrains -constantly trying to show us who the boss is. Why is thos difficultto understand and your call so important? Time to take the license of anyone texting or using a hend held device. That is the only way they will learn. Like naughty and disobedient children, loss of car, license and a heavy fine might hit home before they hit me. If not and you hit me and I live, be prepared to go to jail for attempted murder and lose everything. That is what you deserve for your actions, stupid people.

No to distracted driving
Teens attention are prone to distraction, this is why it's important to guide them and make them aware about traffic rules and regulations for their safety. They must take them seriously to avoid any accident while off the road.

Follow safety rules while off road and that includes "Avoid Distractions"
Very unfortunate. I've read several warnings about distracted driving and that includes usage of mobile phone while on wheels. It's dangerous and risky, so better yet avoid distractions as possible. There are great apps to use while driving, it'll somehow help to avoid road accident.
